Republican Lawmaker Rips John Kirby’s Dismissal of Drone Concerns: ‘That Guy Is an Idiot’
A New Jersey state assemblyman tore into Biden administration national security spokesperson John Kirby on Thursday after he dismissed concerns about drones across the state.
Republican Assemblyman Brian Bergen did not mince words when speaking to Fox News after Kirby addressed the situation.
People across the Garden State have reported sightings of aerial objects nightly throughout this week. It has led to concerns among the state’s senators and from some from New York’s congressional delegation.
Unfounded and rampant speculation spread Wednesday that Iran had a “mothership” that was unleashing drones onto New Jersey for an unknown but nefarious reason.
Kirby shot down the panic at a press conference Thursday afternoon when he explained there was nothing to be concerned about.
“Upon review of available imagery, it appears many of the reports of sightings are actually manned aircraft that are being operated lawfully,” Kirby said. “We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or a public safety threat, or have a foreign nexus.”
On America Reports, John Roberts aired Kirby’s remarks and asked Bergen, a former U.S. Army helicopter pilot, to respond:
That guy – that guy is an idiot. That I can tell you right now. Because the colonel of the state police told the members of the state legislature that one of his helicopters was hovering above a six-foot-wide drone, and he landed that helicopter because he felt unsafe for his pilots. I am a former Apache helicopter pilot and a member of the New Jersey state legislature, and I have seen these things in my own community. That guy, I don’t even know his name, who was on here a couple of minutes ago, is a fool if he is going to say there is no issue.
Roberts noted Kirby was a former U.S. Navy rear admiral.
Bergen responded he hoped to see Army beat Navy in Saturday’s annual college football game between the two military academies.
“Go Army, beat Navy, that’s what I have to say in this regard,” Bergen said.
