‘Beyond Disgusting’: Fox & Friends Hosts Blast Biden For Commuting Sentence Of ‘Kids For Cash’ Judge
The hosts of Fox & Friends Weekend were unsettled over President Joe Biden’s decision to commute the sentence of a controversial judge sentenced over what become known as a “kids for cash” scam.
Former Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Conahan was one of 1,500 people who saw their sentences commuted this week by Biden. The president also handed out 39 pardons to non-violent offenders. Conahan has received the most attention out of this wave of people as he was behind what became known as a “kids for cash” scam in Pennsylvania in which he would receive kickbacks from private prisons for sentencing youths.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) said this week at an event that Biden got it “absolutely wrong” when it comes to Conahan. According to the White House, Conahan fit a certain criteria because he was placed on home confinement during the Covid pandemic. Conahan was convicted in 2011. He was sentenced to more than 17 years behind bars, but he is now a free man.
Pittsburgh columnist Salena Zito joined Fox News on Saturday morning and spoke to Will Cain, calling Conahan’s crime a “profound scandal” in the state of Pennsylvania and pointing out some of the consequences of his actions, including one young man committing suicide after being sentenced to a juvenile detention center by Conahan as part of his scam.
“This had a devastating impact on families,” Zito said.
“Conahan‘s actions destroyed families, including mine, and my son‘s death is a tragic reminder of the consequences of his abuse of power,” Sandy Fonzo, the mother of the young man who took his own life, said in a statement reacting to Biden’s decision.
“So real consequences for what this individual did, to try and get money off of the lives of children,” Carley Shimkus said on Saturday.
Kevin Corke called it “beyond disgusting.”
“It’s beyond disgusting. And when she said vulgar, that really resonates with a lot of Pennsylvanians, but even if you’re not from the keystone state and you hear about this story — and there have been some stories done on this particular case on some of the major networks, you see these crime stories and they say, here’s who was so callous as to take advantage of the most vulnerable among us,” he said. “We’re talking about children here. And to do it for money is beyond the pale.”
