Luigi Mangione, suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and possession of a forged document on Monday.
Mangione was charged with murder, second-degree possession of a forged document, and both second and third-degree criminal possession of a firearm after the New York Police Department announced his arrest on Monday in connection with the killing of Thompson, who was shot to death on a sidewalk in Manhattan last week.
Mangione was arrested after being spotted at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Someone recognized him as the suspect in Thompson’s killing and dialed 911.
The suspect reportedly had a manifesto on his person when he was arrested by police, including lines such as “it had to be done” and “these parasites had it coming.” Police also reportedly discovered a weapon and suppressor, several fake IDs, and a mask.
“We are deeply saddened and shocked at the passing of our dear friend and colleague Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare,” said UnitedHealth Group in a statement following Thompson’s killing. “Brian was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him. We are working closely with the New York Police Department and ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. Our hearts go out to Brian’s family and all who were close to him.”
