Pro-Trump Pundit Says Elon Musk Is Trying To Distract From Fact He ‘Sided With Foreign Workers Over American Workers’
Newsweek opinion editor Batya Ungar-Sargon claimed on Monday that billionaire Donald Trump surrogate Elon Musk is now wading into British politics in an attempt to distract from the fact that he “sided with foreign workers over American workers.”
Reacting on Piers Morgan Uncensored to Musk’s headline-grabbing interference in British politics – which came about mere weeks after the billionaire found himself under fire from Republicans over his controversial immigration stances – Ungar-Sargon said:
I think it’s very important that we ask, why are Americans talking about this 10-year-old case [U.K. grooming gang scandal] all of a sudden with so much vigor and so much interest? And the answer is because, as you led with Piers, Elon Musk decided that this was going to be his cause du jour, and the reason that he decided that, it seems to me, is to distract from the massive debate that he launched about H-1B visas, when he sided with foreign workers over American workers, and the fact that in response to criticism, he has begun censoring people on Twitter in exactly the same way that conservatives used to be censored on Twitter under the old regime. And in order to change the subject, he has decided to talk about this decade-old case in Britain.
Ungar-Sargon went on to accuse Musk of being “a shill” for the Chinese government, claiming, “Elon is not even in it just for himself. He is a shill of the Chinese Communist Party. For all of his masquerading as some sort of maverick who always tells the truth and is always explicit in his views and out there and always says what he thinks, he has never once criticized the CCP.”
She continued, “He’s constantly saying embarrassing, humiliating, bending the knee things about how great the Chinese Communist Party is because of course his entire supply chain for Tesla is in China.”
Ungar-Sargon – who supported President-elect Donald Trump in the 2024 election – concluded, “This is a person who is totally in the pocket of the CCP. To see him as anything else than an actual apparatchik of China is to really miss, I think, the forest for the trees.”
Musk received backlash from Republicans last month after he expressed support for H-1B visas, which allow foreign workers to take American jobs and have a history of immigration fraud. The backlash intensified after Musk doubled down on his stance, censoring critics and endorsing a post which suggested American workers were too “retarded” to be hired for skilled positions.
Less than a week after the controversy, Musk abruptly started to weigh in on British politics – publishing a series of posts about the Rotherham child grooming gang scandal, demanding a new election, and throwing his support behind Reform Party leader Nigel Farage and anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson. On Monday, Musk alleged U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer was “complicit in the rape of Britain.”
Musk generated even more headlines in the UK this week after he withdrew his support for Farage and claimed he didn’t “have what it takes.”
