Senator’s Young Son Tells Kamala Harris ‘I’m Sorry You Didn’t Win’ The Election

Sen. Ruben Gallego’s (D-AZ) young son told Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday that he was sorry she didn’t win the presidential election in November.

The candid moment happened while Harris, the current president of the Senate, was swearing in the recently elected senators for their new terms. Harris began by greeting Gallego, his wife who was carrying their young daughter, and his son. Harris was asking Gallego’s young son about how their day was going when he said, “I’m sorry you didn’t win.”

Harris and the boy then hugged and she told him, “Oh, you know what, sweetheart? But you know what? Do not worry about it because there’s still so much work to do. So it’s not that we– We’re not defeated.”
“You know what that word defeated means?” Harris asked as the boy nodded he did.

“Are we defeated? No, we’re not. Right. That’s right. That’s right,” she said as she then asked Sen. Gallego if he was ready to take the oath of office. Harris and Gallego then recited the oath:

Do you solemnly swear that you will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic? That you will bear true faith and allegiance to the same. That you take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that you will immediately discharge the duties of the office upon which you are about to enter. So help you God.
