Explosion Interrupts MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff Reporting from ‘Catastrophic’ Pacific Palisades Fire
MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff had the challenging assignment of reporting on the catastrophic fires ravaging the neighborhood he grew up in — Pacific Palisades.
His live report came early Wednesday morning as the sun rose to reveal devastation in the neighborhood he called home, and was marked by an explosion that caught the reporter and anchor Ana Cabrera off guard.
Fires fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds continue to cause massive devastation in multiple neighborhoods in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. However, they seemed to have started mainly in the tony neighborhood in the hills overlooking Santa Monica. As a result, many cable news reports have emanated from the Palisades area.
As Soboroff spoke about the historic nature of the still-unfolding event, a large boom could be heard from a nearby house ablaze.
“Certainly not in my lifetime, and maybe not in anybody’s lifetime living today have we seen with winds of the magnitude,” Soboroff explained while a loud explosion blasted. “Excuse me. But as you can see, these are still very volatile situations. I don’t know if that was something from the kitchen, but a little bit of an explosion here.”
“There are a lot of questions about how this could have happened to so many homes in so many places in one of the most vibrant communities in Los Angeles,” he continued. “A very sad day here.”
