Mike Pence Praises ‘Admirable’ Kamala Harris for Presiding Over Her Own Loss on Anniversary of Capitol Riot

Former Vice President Mike Pence praised his successor, Kamala Harris, for presiding over the certification of her own defeat in the 2024 presidential election on Monday, calling her “particularly admirable.”

Four years ago to the day, Pence presided over Joe Biden and Harris’s victory in the 2020 election despite the fact that then-President Donald Trump was leaning on him to reject the results and throw the country into chaos.

Trump’s baseless claims about the election being stolen from him eventually resulted in a riot that saw the Capitol Building breached. Among the chants repeated by his supporters was “Hang Mike Pence!”

On Monday, Pence praised Harris for doing her part and carrying out her constitutional duty.

“The peaceful transfer of power is the hallmark of our democracy and today, members of both parties in the House and Senate along with the vice president certified the election of our new president and vice president without controversy or objection,” he wrote in a post on X. “I welcome the return of order and civility to these historic proceedings and offer my most sincere congratulations and prayers to President Donald J. Trump and Vice President J. D. Vance on their election to lead this great Nation.”

“I also commend the members of the House, Senate and the Vice President who did their duty under the Constitution of the United States, it being particularly admirable that Vice President Harris would preside over the certification of a presidential election that she lost,” concluded Pence. “God bless our new President and Vice President and their families and may God continue to bless the United States of America.”

Pence ran against Trump in the 2024 GOP presidential primary, and did not endorse his old running mate come general election season.

He has been critical of Trump’s behavior in the wake of the 2020 election, as well as what Pence characterized as a “slap in the face” to pro-lifers.
