Univision Producer Shoots Down Viral Fake News That Kamala Harris Used Teleprompter During Town Hall

A Univision producer took it upon themselves to debunk the viral claim that Vice President Kamala Harris used a teleprompter during a recent town hall.

Harris on Thursday attended the town hall in Las Vegas to speak with Latino voters. At one point during the broadcast, the camera was behind Harris and facing the crowd. There, a teleprompter could be seen a few feet in front of her while she was answering a question. The prompter cut off a few seconds later.

This was enough for some on the right to claim the town hall was scripted.

Daniel Coronell, who helped run the program on the Spanish-speaking network, took to social media to explain what was actually happening.

“That’s not true,” Coronell said. “The teleprompter that displays a text written in Spanish was a support element for the town hall moderator. I can tell you this with first-hand knowledge because I was in charge of the television program.”

The moderator himself also came forward to shoot down the theory. According to Enrique Acevedo, the teleprompter “switched to a timer” shortly after the screen went black.

“The prompter displayed my introduction (in Spanish) and then it switched to a timer,” Enrique Acevedo said. “Any claim to the contrary is simply untrue.”
