Thom Yorke, the lead singer of Radiohead, was in the middle of his solo concert in Melbourne, Australia on Wednesday when a protestor in the crowd started heckling him over the ongoing war in Gaza, eventually driving Yorke off the stage.

In a video recorded by a fan in the audience, Yorke can be seen at the microphone pausing while someone yelled in the background about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, asking him: “How can you be silent?” After a few moments — and after another member of the audience yelled “Ignore him!” — Yorke addressed the protestor, saying: “Come up here and say that.” It led to a heated exchange that ended with Yorke taking off his guitar and leaving the stage. CNN had a detailed account:

“Come up here and say that. Right here. Come on. Come up on the fucking stage and say what you want to say,” [said Yorke.]

Pointing at the heckler, he continued: “Don’t stand there like a coward. Come here and say it.”

“Come on. You want to piss on everybody’s night? Come on,” Yorke adds, before saying, “OK, you do. See you later then.”

That was when Yorke left, leaving an audibly upset crowd shouting for him to come back.

CNN noted that “social media posts” said that Yorke eventually returned to the stage to perform Radiohead’s “Karma Police.”
