Mehdi Hasan Calls ‘Bullsh*t’ on Piers Morgan, Tells Him ‘You’re Rolling Over for Trump’

Mehdi Hasan clashed with Piers Morgan on Thursday, with the Zeteo founder accusing the Uncensored host of peddling “bullshit.”

The two discussed President-elect Donald Trump’s lawsuits against media outlets, including CBS News, ABC News, and those associated with a badly wayward poll showing Trump trailing in Iowa ahead of November’s election.

Trump sued ABC News after George Stephanopoulos claimed on air, “Judges and two separate juries have found [Trump] liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape.”

Stephanopoulos was referring to a civil judgment against Trump in which a jury found the president-elect liable for sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll in the mid-1990s. The jury declined to find Trump liable for rape. Trump sued, and ABC News settled the case for $15 million.

Hasan and Morgan sparred over Trump’s lawsuits against the media, as the guest asked the host if he supports the legal maneuverings:

MORGAN: Trump’s suing people because actually, people like George Stephanopoulos lied about him. They’d exaggerated what’d he been found guilty of [sic]. And guess what?

HASAN: You and I both know ABC would’ve won in court.

MORGAN: ABC didn’t go to court. They gave him $15 million.

HASAN: Why do you think that is, Piers? Because of a legal argument? Or because they’re sucking up to an authoritarian?

MORGAN: Or because they knew they were gonna lose.

HASAN: No, bullshit. No legal expert agrees with you on that. Piers, legal experts don’t agree with you on that, actually. Most lawyers don’t agree with you on that. You’re wrong.

MORGAN: Mehdi, you’ll never agree with me about that.

[CROSSTALK]

HASAN: Do you support Donald Trump suing a pollster because he doesn’t like a poll result. This is insane, piers. I thought you were a free speech [unintelligible], but now you’re rolling over for Trump as well.

MORGAN: Donald Trump can sue who he likes.

HASAN: Do you support it, is my question. Do you support a president of the United States suing media organizations he doesn’t like?

[CROSSTALK]

Ultimately, Morgan declined to answer the question, stating that as the host, it’s his job to ask the questions.

Regarding Stephanopoulos’s claim that Trump was found liable for rape, that charge was lent some credence by the judge in the case. Judge Lewis Kaplan said that the jury had essentially found Trump liable for rape.

“The finding that Ms. Carroll failed to prove that she was ‘raped’ within the meaning of the New York Penal Law does not mean that she failed to prove that Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as many people commonly understand the word ‘rape,’” Kaplan wrote.
