‘Like Fraternity Brothers’ Fox’s Bill Hemmer Homes In On Trump and Obama Chumming It Up At Jimmy Carter Funeral
Fox News’ Bill Hemmer focused on an unusual sight at late President Jimmy Carter’s funeral on Thursday as President-elect Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama appeared to share in a lighthearted conversation.
Trump was seated next to Obama at Thursday’s funeral, which was also attended by President Joe Biden, former Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and others. A number of social media users noticed that Trump and Obama appeared to be pleasantly chatting at the funeral with both smiling and Obama even laughing at one point.
America’s Newsroom anchors Hemmer and Dana Perino noted that seeing so many leaders setting differences aside and coming together shows what makes America “great.”
Hemmer said:
Look at this picture, Dana, screen left you’ve got Al Gore, right? Right in front of him you’ve got George Bush. They fought it out for 37 days in Tallahassee late 2000. Next to Al Gore is Mike Pence who has distanced himself considerably from his former boss, Donald Trump. And in front of Donald Trump is Doug Emhoff and his wife Kamala Harris who were just vanquished in November. I just, to Dana’s point, this is quite remarkable and it’s one of those moments when people say this is what makes America great. These people compete in a political level, they have very strong differences in how they believe the country should be run, and what sort of force we should be around the world.
Carter’s funeral is a moment for these leaders to be “fraternity brothers,” Hemmer said, singling out Obama and Trump as they chatted away.
“At least for this moment and for this day they are — they are like fraternity brothers Dana, the way they look at each other and smile, as you see Trump and Obama in the picture there,” Hemmer said.
Others on social media flagged other moments between Obama and Trump, including Obama laughing at something the president-elect said and Vice President Kamala Harris looking back at one point to see the pair talking.
