Laura Ingraham Calls Native American Cabinet Secretary ‘Another DEI Hire’

Fox News’s Laura Ingraham demeaned Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, referring to her as “another DEI hire of the Biden administration.”

“DEI” stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The practice has been used by businesses, government entities, schools, and other organizations to bring underrepresented and marginalized people into the fold.

Haaland, a former congresswoman from New Mexico, is the first Native American to serve as a cabinet secretary.

On Wednesday’s edition of The Ingraham Angle, the host and guest Kevin McCarthy discussed the raging wildfires in the Los Angeles area, which have prompted mass evacuations and consumed thousands of acres. High winds and drought conditions have combined to create several conflagrations that are far from being contained. Some water tanks in the region have gone dry.

“Could you imagine a poor fireman coming in there and trying to put out a fire with no water?” McCarthy said. “Gavin Newsom fought President Trump. He came in and changed the biological opinion. People know this in California – the little delta smelt – to bring the water down.”

“And Deb Haaland, we gotta call her out too because she’s the interior secretary,” Ingraham replied. “Another DEI hire of the Biden administration. I’m sure she is a lovely person. She is completely incompetent. Completely incompetent. Totally.”

Haaland has been targeted by conservatives before. In 2023, a Republican congressman introduced an amendment to reduce her annual salary to $1. The measure failed. Months earlier, she had a contentious exchange with Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), who accused her of having an “agenda for radical climate change.”
