WATCH: Hulk Hogan Booed Relentlessly During Surprise Appearance on Monday Night Raw
Once-beloved WWE star Hulk Hogan faced a heavy rain of boos throughout much of his recent surprise appearance on Monday Night Raw.
The WWE on Monday kicked off a new era for the flagship program. January 6’s episode of Raw was its first on Netflix, beginning a 10-year, $5 billion partnership between the wrestling company and the streaming platform.
Taped live at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, the Netflix debut was appropriately grandiose. Throughout the program, fans in the crowd and at home were treated to surprise appearances from a handful of company legends, including The Rock and John Cena.
While their arrivals were met with resounding applause, Hogan received the exact opposite. When his theme music ended and he gazed around the arena, heavy boos began. Undeterred, Hogan began his promo.
“Well, let me tell you something, brother!” Hogan said.
The boos grew even louder.
“You know something, maniacs?” Hogan continued. “I’ve been in this business for over 40 years, and the greatest part, the greatest part of my life, was being part of this great WWE guys.”
Still, that praise of the company did nothing to stop the boos.
Some speculated on social media that the booing was due to Hogan’s support of President-elect Donald Trump. After all, Los Angeles County is traditionally very blue and Vice President Kamala Harris won it by more than 30 points.
That theory, however, doesn’t hold up when considering the fact that Undertaker — another staunch Trump supporter — received a much warmer welcome when he appeared on the show.
