GOP Senator Tells Fox News Point Blank That RFK Jr. is ‘Wrong’ On Vaccinations
Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) told Fox News anchor Jacqui Heinrich Sunday he looks forward to meeting with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about his upcoming confirmation hearings for the head of the Department of Health and Human Services.
The Louisiana Republican said President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to run the department was “wrong” over his stance on vaccinations but said there was some middle ground between the two men.
On Fox News Sunday, Heinrich noted Kennedy could surprise the political world by getting support from the other side of the aisle.
Heinrich said, “Your committee is going to be overseeing RFK Jr’s hearing. And there are some reports that Democratic Senators John Fetterman, Bernie Sanders might be getting giving him a nod of support. How is RFK Jr faring among Democrats on your committee?”
The Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee replied:
I haven’t spoken to him about it. I just don’t know. I will meet with him this coming week. I look forward to the interview. I agree with him on some things and disagree on others. There’s food safety. I think the ultra-processed food is a problem. Vaccinations, he’s wrong on. And so and so I just look forward to having a good dialog with him on that. Okay.
Without evidence, Kennedy has linked vaccines to autism. In 2023 – as the Associated Press noted – he went as far as to declare, “There’s no vaccine that is safe and effective.”
He also once said, “I see somebody on a hiking trail carrying a little baby and I say to him, better not get them vaccinated.”.
Kennedy has since said he is not anti-vaccine but supports choice on the issue, comments Trump has highlighted as he hopes to see the political scion confirmed with as little drama as possible.
