Jesse Watters Uses Photo of Female LA Firefighters to Make Bizarre Criticism About Fire Department: ‘Sure Hope They Know What They’re Doing’
Jesse Watters used a photo of a trio of female Los Angeles firefighters to criticize the city’s fire department and its supposed emphasis on diversity initiatives.
Fires continue to displace thousands of residents in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, beginning first in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood before spreading to other parts of the region. On Wednesday night, the wildfires made it to Studio City and the Hollywood Hills.
As this was going on, the Fox News host argued that diversity initiatives were in a contributing factor in the disaster — suggesting the fire department has prioritized inclusion over fire safety.
On Jesse Watters Primetime, Watters first took aim at Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for being out of the country during the disaster to attend a presidential inauguration in Ghana. Then, he turned his attention to fire department.
“So who else is running things?” Watters asked.
Then, a photo of three female firefighters appeared on screen.
“This right here, ladies and gentlemen,” Watters continued, “this is the leadership of the LA Fire Department. I sure hope they know what they’re doing.”
Watters also introduced a clip from a 2022 NBC report in which LAFD Fire Chief Kristin Crowley — the department’s first-ever female chief — explained her goal of improving diversity in the workforce. Crowley, the report noted, is also a member of the LGBTQ community.
“So while her department was sending equipment to Ukraine, the chief was marching in pride parades,” Watters said, “which is fine. Have all the pride you want; but you better make sure you’re ready to do your job when it counts.”
