The Gonzaga University men’s basketball team had an uncomfortably close call Friday when its charter plane nearly collided with an airliner.

The team arrived at Los Angeles International Airport on Key Lime Air flight 563 for its Saturday game against the UCLA Bruins. As the chartered jet attempted to taxi off the runway, however, it nearly went into the path of a Delta Air Lines plane as it was taking off.

Footage of the incident was captured live by the aviation enthusiast account Airline Videos.

“Key Lime, stop, stop, stop!” the air traffic controller said as the jet appeared to be headed for a collision with the airliner.

Once the Delta plane took off and was clear of the runway, the Key Lime jet was instructed to cross the runway and proceed to its gate.

In a statement published on The Associated Press, the Federal Aviation Administration said it was under investigation.

“Air traffic controllers directed Key Lime Air Flight 563 to hold short of crossing a runway at Los Angeles International Airport because a second aircraft was taking off from the runway at the time,” the FAA added. “When the Embraer E135 jet proceeded to cross the hold bars, air traffic controllers told the pilots to stop. The jet never crossed the runway edge line.”

Neither the Delta flight not the occupants of the Key Lime flight — aside from its pilots — were aware of what had happened.
